Asteroid target smaller than expected Posted on October 27, 2025 by Administrator New observations of asteroid 1998 KY26, the next target of Japan’s Hayabusa2 spacecraft, reveal the space rock to be almost three times smaller and spinning much faster than previously thought. Hayabusa2 is scheduled to touch down on the asteroid in 2031. This is part of the spacecraft’s extended mission following its touchdown on asteroid Ryugu in 2018.
