Earth ChangesKilauea produces record-breaking lava fountains in episode 35 Posted on October 29, 2025 by Administrator Kilauea put on a record-breaking light show with episode 35 of its current eruption. After a couple of days of bubbling and overflows, lava fountains began spewing from the north vent in Halemaumau crater at about 8:05 p.m. Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. That was followed by fountains from the south vent, which began at about 8:50 p.m. and grew rapidly, with lava from both vents feeding large flows on the crater floor, USGS said. At 10:11 p.m., USGS reported record-high fountains for this eruption at nearly 1,500 feet.
