When Jesus declared of the church that “the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18), he was in Caesarea Philippi at the mouth of the famous cave serving as the Roman “Grotto of Pan” at the southwestern base of Mount Hermon, an underworld portal where, in all likelihood, the Watchers who sinned were delivered “into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment” (2 Peter 2:4).
